A Buffalo man who fatally beat his estranged wife’s boyfriend last year in South Buffalo was sentenced Tuesday to three to nine years in prison.
Mark Prince, 45, had pleaded guilty to second-degree manslaughter in the June 18 attack on James Soler, 50, in the victim’s home on Cazenovia Street. Soler died later that day.
Erie County Judge Sheila A. DiTullio told Prince that at age 45, he should have dealt with the fact that his estranged wife had a boyfriend in a more adult way.
“Instead you kicked and beat the victim in his home,” she said. “You beat him with such force that he died.”
After the beating, Prince fled the scene. He was taken into custody earlier this year in Ontario where he was staying with relatives. He was brought back to Buffalo and was arraigned in City Court.
Prince had faced a minimum prison sentence of one to three years and a maximum of five to 15 years.
