BPO’s JoAnn Falletta receives SUNY award

Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra music director JoAnn Falletta has received the State University of New York Distinguished Academy’s Medallion of Distinction.

SUNY Chancellor Nancy Zimpher conferred the award Tuesday evening at the annual SUNY Distinguished Academy dinner in the Desmond Hotel in Albany.

Falletta is the fourth person to be given the award, which honors someone who has worked closely with SUNY colleges or universities to enhance their research, teaching or services.

Falletta has regularly taken part in the University at Buffalo’s June in Buffalo festival and the orchestra has performed on the UB campus many times. She received the Chancellor Charles P. Norton Medal, UB’s highest honor, in 2011.
