Stylish thief steals speaker during tour of church

A well-dressed man entered St. Paul’s Episcopal Cathedral Saturday and walked out with a music speaker, an official of the sanctuary at 128 Pearl St. told police.

The thief, described as a black male, 5 feet, 7 inches tall and 160 pounds, clean-haven and wearing a black sports coat and purple button-down shirt, entered the church about 1 p.m. while it was open for public tours, approached a section of the altar area where church musicians perform and took the speaker, valued at about $750, according to Central District police.

An investigation into the theft was continuing, police said.
