Bobby Ross and Andrew Coughlin saved the day as they combined to clear two chances late by Detroit to save FC Buffalo’s 1-1 draw on Saturday night at Robert E. Rich Sr. All High Stadium.
A regular-season record crowd of 1,220 watched FC Buffalo (1-0-1) remain unbeaten on the young season as the team got a rise out of the crowd in the 64th minute when Dylan MacVane knocked in Matt Ferguson’s corner kick to give the hosts a 1-0 lead. Detroit’s Josh Rogers tied it 15 minutes later, taking advantage of a handball call in the box.
FC Buffalo visits FC Indiana on Friday during a two-games in three days Midwestern swing. Buffalo plays the Indiana Fire on May 31.
Meanwhile, the Western New York Flash (2-3-1) earned their second win of the season, beating Washington, 3-2, in a National Women’s Soccer League game at Sahlen’s Stadium in Rochester. Lynn Williams, Samantha Mewis and Jasmyne Spencer scored for the Flash with Spencer’s tally breaking a 2-2 knot in the 57th minute. The second-place Spirit fell to 3-1-1.
