Two Buffalo men arrested for Evans bank robbery

Two Buffalo men were captured soon after they allegedly tried unsuccessfully to rob the Evans Bank in Derby Thursday afternoon.

Shawn Gray, 35, and Daiquan Gray, 20, were being held in the Erie County Holding Center Friday on first- and second-degree attempted robbery and fourth-degree conspiracy.

They were arrested in the Lakeview Road area of Hamburg within minutes of the 1:30 p.m. attempted holdup at the bank at 6840 Erie Road. Evans police were assisted by a Hamburg Police K-9 unit and the Erie County Sheriff’s Air One helicopter.

The suspects are not related, Evans police said.

Their alleged getaway car was stopped on Lakeview Road by Hamburg Police after an all-points bulletin was put out. Because of an extensive criminal history, Shawn Gray is being held without bail. Daiquan Gray is being held in lieu of $10,000 bail.

Evans Police Chief Ernest P. Masullo said his department is continuing an investigation along with the FBI, the Buffalo Police Department, State Police and the Hamburg and East Aurora police departments.
