Niagara Legislature to host health insurance meeting

LOCKPORT – An informational meeting for Niagara County and municipal officials about the proposed county-wide health insurance consortium is to be hosted by the County Legislature in the County Courthouse in Lockport at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Legislature Chairman William L. Ross, C-Wheatfield, said the meeting will feature a speaker from the state Department of Financial Services and was set up in part by the New York State Association of Counties.

The Town of Somerset last year organized a study of the financial feasibility for each municipality of joining a county-wide group to buy health coverage for local government employees, a commitment that is one of the biggest expenses in all government budgets. By October, every local government in the county except the City of Niagara Falls had signed up to take part in the study.
