Lockport man takes plea offer in child molestation

LOCKPORT – A City of Lockport man pleaded guilty Friday to molesting a 5-year-old girl last summer.

Shawn M. Johnson, 33, of Church Street, was jailed without bail to await sentencing Aug. 14 by Niagara County Judge Sara Sheldon for attempted first-degree criminal sexual act and promoting a sexual performance by a child as a sexually motivated felony.

Sheldon agreed to give Johnson no more than 10 years in prison and 15 years of post-release supervision. The minimum sentence is 3½ years. Defense attorney James J. Faso Jr. said Johnson took the offer after Deputy District Attorney Holly E. Sloma warned that the case would be presented to a grand jury next week. Sloma said she intended to seek a predatory sexual assault indictment that carries a potential life sentence.

The girl was subjected to sexual contact Aug. 30 in Lockport, and Johnson, the father of five boys ages 2 to 13, took a digital photograph of himself fondling the girl, Sloma said.
