Jamestown police probe link between arsons at condemned homes

JAMESTOWN – The arson that destroyed a vacant house at 420 Falconer St. has prompted an investigation by Jamestown police into a possible serial arsonist who may be burning down buildings that have been slated for demolition, Capt. Robert Samuelson said Friday.

Police are reviewing fires at several other buildings already marked for demolition by the city government in recent years to see if they can determine a pattern linking the fires to one person or a group of individuals that may have been angered over delays in getting the structures torn down.

Police patrols will be monitoring other condemned homes between midnight and 6 a.m., when the fires have occurred.

Anyone who may have seen suspicious activity around abandoned and condemned homes in the city is asked to contact the police department’s tip line at 483-8477.
