Probation probable for North Tonawanda man in forged-check case

LOCKPORT – A man who already is on five years’ probation for selling cocaine will receive the same sentence for forging a $5,000 check if he stays out of trouble between now and Aug. 6.

That’s the sentencing date and promise Niagara County Judge Sara Sheldon set Thursday for Cedric L. Elias, 33, of Nash Road, North Tonawanda. The former Town of Lockport resident admitted to a reduced charge of attempted second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument for trying to pay a Lockport auto repair shop with a forged $5,000 check on Dec. 28, 2010.

Elias’ cocaine deal occurred in the Town of Lockport June 7, 2013, and Sheldon placed him on probation for fifth-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance in March.
