WILSON – National Grid announced Thursday it is rebuilding one Niagara County substation and renovating another, investing nearly $8 million in the upgrades.
A station on Cambria-Wilson Road near Ide Road in Wilson has been demolished and is being rebuilt on the same site, the company said. That project will cost an estimated $2.75 million. A mobile unit has been installed there temporarily.
Meanwhile, another substation on Shawnee Road near Route 31 in Cambria in receiving $5 million worth of improvements.
The utility said both projects are scheduled to come online next year and both are being done to improve service reliability and increase capacity.
National Grid said it has invested $1.6 billion in electric system upgrades in upstate New York in the past five years, and expects to spend another $1.6 billion in the next three years.
