Lawrence C. Marek, welder, Cheektowaga-Sloan School Board member

Jan. 23, 1953 – May 18, 2015

Lawrence C. Marek, of Cheektowaga, a former member of the Cheektowaga-Sloan Board of Education, died Monday in Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital, Amherst, after a brief illness. He was 62.

Born in Buffalo, he graduated from Bishop Timon High School and Erie Community College.

A longtime skilled craftsman, Mr. Marek worked as a welder at Hood Industries from 1973 to 2013. He served as vice president of the William Street Taxpayers Association.

He was a member of St. Josaphat Catholic Church, where he served as president of the Holy Name Society and Ushers Society.

Mr. Marek was a member of the St. Josaphat senior citizens group and of Father Justin Council 5670, Knights of Columbus.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years, the former Diane Walters; three sons, Shawn, Brian and Mark; a daughter, Carrie Crowley; and a granddaughter.

A memorial Mass will be offered at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in St. Josaphat Church, 20 Peoria Ave.
