FINNEGAN, Clare P. (Zablotny)

FINNEGAN - Clare P. (nee Zablotny) Age 85, died peacefully Saturday, May 16, 2015, surrounded by her loving family and their prayers. Born in Buffalo on August 7, 1929, she was the youngest daughter of the late Joseph and Valeria Zablotny. Clare was a graduate of D'Youville College and received her Master's Degree in Education from Canisius College, both in Buffalo. She was a teacher for many years at Sloane Central Schools in Depew, NY. In 1960 she married her dearest darling, Richard G. Finnegan, and soon devoted herself to raising their children. In 1968, the family moved to Latham, NY, where she became an active member and communicant of St. Ambrose Church in Latham, and served as a substitute teacher for the North Colonie School District. Clare's husband Richard died on May 17, 1986. She loved and relished her family. She traveled widely with her children and met Pope John Paul II in Rome in 1997. She was a lifelong Buffalo Bills football fan. An adventurous cook and "foodie" long before there was such a thing, she had an unabashed weakness for hot dogs. Clare made a point to learn the name of everyone who touched her world, and cared enough to hear and remember their stories and their joys. A woman of great faith, she shared the gratitude and troubles of family, friends and acquaintances alike in her prayers. She is survived by her loving children, Richard J. (Cynthia) Finnegan of Severna Park, MD, Ann Finnegan (Kenneth) Miller of Latham, John P. (Diane) Finnegan of Manlius, NY and Mary Childs (Keith) Mayer of Boston, MA; by her adored grandchildren, Amanda, Colleen, Jack, Marie, Patrick and Ben; her dear brother Ernest Zablotny and his wife, Mildred, of Cheektowaga, her sister-in-law Dolores Zablotny of Cheektowaga, her goddaughter JoAnn Wypijewski of New York, many nieces, nephews and numerous cousins. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her brother Joseph Zablotny and her young nephew Joseph Zablotny of Cheektowaga, her beloved sister, Alice (the late Ted) Wypijewski of Buffalo, and all of her Finnegan family in-laws. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, May 22 at 10:30 AM at St. Ambrose Church, 347 Old Loudon Road, Latham, with Rev. Tony Childs officiating. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, May 23 at 12 noon at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Cheektowaga. Relatives and friends are invited to both services and may also call at the Bowen & Parker Bros. Funeral Home, 97 Old Loudon Road, Latham, on Thursday, May 21, from 4-6:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution in honor of her memory to the St. Ambrose Church Teen Life Program, 347 Old Loudon Road, Latham, NY 12110.
