Rev. John J. Fox, served as priest in 7 churches

The Rev. John J. Fox, who was ordained in Buffalo in 1960 and served as a priest in seven churches, died Thursday in Kenmore Mercy Hospital. He was 81.

A Buffalo native, he studied at Diocesan Preparatory Seminary and Niagara University’s Our Lady of the Angels seminary.

Father Fox was ordained by Bishop Joseph A. Burke at St. Joseph New Cathedral in Buffalo, then served at St. Mark in Rushford as a ministry apostolate and as an assistant at St. Ambrose in Buffalo, St. Mary in Holley, St. William in West Seneca and St. Aloysius in Cheektowaga.

From 1980-92, he served as pastor of St. Vincent in Attica, then resigned because of medical reasons. In the years that followed, he was in residence at St. Pius X in Getzville, from where he retired in 1997.

He was a fourth-degree member of the Knights of Columbus and a member of the St. Pius X Holy Name Society. He also served as chaplain of the Winchester Fire Department.

Survivors include a sister Mary Teresa Sullivan.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 a.m. Wednesday in St. Pius X Church, 1700 North French Road, Getzville.
