May 18, 1955: How about a new davenport for your parlor?

Part of the lexicon of Buffalo grandmothers is frozen in time for this Buffalo business, which was advertising its couches and sofas 60 years ago this week.

The Buffalo Davenport Company obviously made “davenports,” known as couches to subsequent generations, but it’s not clear if the factory churned out any other items for your grandma’s parlor, like chesterfields.

Did your grandma go into her pocketbook to give you a nickel for the show? Or to get the milkman’s delivery into the ice box while she was cooking supper?
