Liz Johnson of Cheektowaga will be seeded second Tuesday night in the stepladder finals of the USBC Queens Championship at The Ashwaubenon Bowling Alley in Green Bay, Wis. The Queens is the first event on the new Professional Women's Bowling Association Tour and will be televised live (ESPN2, 8 p.m.).
Johnson, the 2009 Queens champion and a top-five finisher four other times since 2004, qualified seventh and won five matches before losing to the 37th qualifier Erin McCarthy, 795-691, in the winners bracket final on Monday.
After winning two matches on Sunday, Johnson defeated Shannon Pluhowsky, 695-693, Brittany Smith, 627-586, and Liz Kuhlkin, 682-612, on Monday before facing McCarthy, a former collegiate star from Omaha, Neb.
McCarthy will be at the top of the stepladder. The Nos. 3-4-5 positions for the finals were to be decided Monday night.
