Arrest made in West Side stabbing; victim hospitalized in fair condition

Northwest District police arrested a 24-year-old man Sunday night following a stabbing at Potomac Avenue and Hoyt Street on the city’s West Side.

Officers charged Shakeem Pierce, of Alden, with second-degree assault, criminal possession of a weapon and endangering the welfare of a child following the incident at about 8:15 p.m., according to police.

The victim, Brian Ballard, 29, was stabbed in the right side of the abdomen, police said. He was taken to Erie County Medical Center, where authorities said he was listed in fair condition Monday.
