Vidler’s announces 85th anniversary party and trivia

Vidler’s, the iconic general store in East Aurora, announced it will celebrate its 85th anniversary in June with party and trivia information.

The celebration will be Saturday, June 20, and the owners area inviting people stop in for a piece of cake.

“Each week prior to the birthday bash, I’ll be sending you a bit of Vidler’s trivia that you may not know about our iconic store that has been on Main Street in East Aurora for 85 years," Don Vidler said.

Here are some starters.

• The original name of the store from 1930 to 1945 was “The Fair 5¢ to $1.00 Store”

• None of the Vidlers were actually born in East Aurora. Wichita, Kansas - yes; Wheatland, Wyoming - yes; Our Lady of Victory in Lackawanna, yes.

• Among the best selling items in the 1930’s were fireworks and women’s house dresses (for $1.00).
