Gary C. Tucker will take over as president and CEO of Mount St. Mary’s Hospital and Health Center in Lewiston when the hospital officially joins the Catholic Health System on July 1.
Tucker, the hospital’s senior vice president and chief operating officer, will replace Judith A. Maness, who has served as the hospital’s chief executive since 2006, Catholic Health announced Friday. Tucker joined Mount St. Mary’s in 2006, as interim chief operating officer, and he was named to the job on a permanent basis and given the senior vice president’s title in 2008.
The merger between Catholic Health and Mount St. Mary’s was announced in April 2014 and was approved by the state Health Department in December.
Officials said the merger will allow for improved efficiencies and offer the Lewiston hospital access to Catholic Health’s administrative, corporate and specialty medical services.
In announcing the merger, hospital and system officials said it wasn’t driven by financial concerns and it isn’t expected to result in layoffs at Mount St. Mary’s, which has about 700 workers. The hospital earned $441,139 on $90.4 million in revenue in 2013, according to its most recent financial filing with the IRS.
