Nietzsche’s has hosted its fair share of tribute shows over its long existence, but it’s rare for the venue to host one band dedicated to one artist. On Friday night, What the Beck, a tribute band dedicated to, you guessed it, Beck, will make its debut performance. Fronted by Universe Shark’s Jake Cavinder, the nearly 10-person act will take on the discography of one of alt-rock’s finest musicians. From his early days of lo-fi antifolk to goofy, blue-eyed soul to his latest incarnation of a seasoned troubadour, Beck’s catalog is one of the more impressive and diverse born from the ’90s, so it will be interesting to see what Cavinder and crew choose to tackle Friday night as they bring the new project to the stage.
Opening for What the Beck will be Nirvana tribute act Big Bottle Rocket. Doors are at 8 p.m. Friday in Nietzsche’s (248 Allen St.) and admission is $10.
