Twin siblings Peter and Will Anderson have been handily bridging the gap between post-bop and present-day jazz over the past several years, in the process earning plaudits from critics, peers and downright living legends, among them Quincy Jones. (Quoth Jones in the band’s press package: “You dudes are the future! You all have made my soul smile, and you made a 78-year-old ex-Be-Bopper smile like a fox eatin’ sauerkraut!”).
Originally hailing from Bethesda, Md., and currently operating out of the spiritual home of jazz, New York City, the Andersons are top-flight improvisers and saxophonists who have studied the greats of the instrument – Charlie Parker, John Coltrane, Sonny Rollins, Lester Young – and parlayed their knowledge into gigs with the likes of Clark Terry, Jimmy Heath, Benny Golson and Hank Jones.
The Andersons are currently touring with guitarist Alex Wintz, and will make their Buffalo debut as the Peter and Will Anderson Trio at 8 p.m. May 19 in Musicalfare Theatre’s Premier Center Cabaret (4380 Main St., on the Daemen College campus). Tickets are $25. Visit musicalfare.com.
