Buffalo theater power couple ties the knot in New York City

For their wedding on Wednesday night, Javier Bustillos and Anthony Chase -- two of the Buffalo theater community's leading figures -- didn't want anything too fancy. Just a small backstage ceremony officiated by Broadway producer Tom Kirdahy and attended by a couple of close friends.

The friends? Oh, just Tony-winning playwright Terrence McNally and Broadway legend Chita Rivera.

No biggie.

That's according to a story published this morning on Broadway.com, which also noted that the couple then celebrated by attending last night's production of "The Visit," in which Rivera stars.

Chase, a familiar face to Buffalo theater fans, is the longtime theater editor for Artvoice, the creator of the annual Artie Awards and assistant dean in the School of Arts and Humanities at SUNY Buffalo. Bustillos, whose photos with Broadway and film stars have also long appeared alongside his theater column in Artvoice, is the founder and artistic director of Buffalo United Artists.

The couple has been together for 33 years.
