Clutch, with Neil Fallon, joins Mastodon as part of the “Missing Link Tour” Wednesday in the Rapids Theatre.

This is such an inspired pairing of heavy rock artists. The mighty Mastodon, known for grandiose slabs of psychedelic-tinged heavy metal, joined by Clutch, a band whose forays into the fusion of stoner metal with classic Zeppelin/Soundgarden-style hard riff rock have earned it a legendary status – well, this is the stuff metal dreams are made of.

Though either band could easily headline and offer a two-plus hour set of its own, and clearly satisfy its fan base in the process, having the two bands share the bill is a blessing, for fans of one band are quite likely to be fans of the other. Mastodon has been airing a bit of new material on the tour so far, debuting songs from the due-in-September platter “Psychic Warfare.” To make matters even more enticing, Clutch frontman supreme Neil Fallon has been joining Mastodon for a rendering of “Blood and Thunder.”

The “Missing Link Tour” comes to the Rapids Theatre (1711 Main St., Niagara Falls) at 7 p.m. Wednesday. Graveyard opens. Tickets are $32.50-$36 (Ticketfly).
