"Idol" ratings slip badly but it remains a relatively popular Fox show here

Tonight’s the night that “American Idol” crowns its next-to-last winner.

You get a gold star if you can name the two guys up for the honor in the two-hour, six-minute finale that airs starting at 8 tonight on WUTV, the local Fox affiliate.

The truth is much of Western New York has lost interest in the Fox series that the network announced Monday will end with a celebratory 2016 season.

The performance finale Tuesday night had a 5.5 rating on WUTV, the local Fox affiliate. That actually was lower than the 6.3 rating the week earlier.

The 5.5 rating is about a quarter of what the show averaged here when it was on top of the TV charts.

But the series still remains one of the highest-rated Fox series in WNY.

By the way, Clark Beckham and Nick Fradiani are the two finalists tonight hoping to be crowned the winner of season 14 around 10:03 p.m.
