Buffalo man admits shooting, robberies

A Buffalo man admitted this week in Erie County Court that he shot one man in the face, then robbed three other people during a one-day crime spree on the West Side.

Kevin Dogan, 30, of Military Road, pleaded guilty as charged Tuesday to one count of first-degree assault and three counts of first-degree robbery in the Dec. 18, 2013 rampage, according to District Attorney Frank A. Sedita III.

After shooting a man on Pennsylvania Street during an apparent robbery attempt, Dogan stole a couple’s car at gunpoint on Fargo Avenue, but he couldn’t operate the vehicle’s manual transmission, so he took their cellphone to prevent them from calling police, Sedita said.

Minutes later, Dogan stole a truck at gunpoint from a FedEx employee who was delivering Christmas presents on Fargo, Sedita said. After abandoning the truck on West Avenue, he was arrested by police as he tried to break into a home on Forest Avenue.

Dogan, a second felony offender who served a prison sentence for burglary, faces a prison sentence of at least 10 years and at most 50 years when he is sentenced June 15 by Judge Michael F. Pietruszka.

Assistant District Attorneys James R. Gardner and Paul E. Bonanno prosecuted the case.
