LOCKPORT – The Town of Lockport will resume taking free electronic waste drop-offs from town residents at its new shed behind Town Hall on Dysinger Road on May 30, Councilman Mark C. Crocker announced last week.
The shed will be available only from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the last Saturday of each month until November to take TV sets, computers and monitors, printers, microwave ovens, copiers, fax machines and video equipment. No other items will be accepted, Crocker said.
A state law that took effect this year barred the disposal of electronic waste in regular garbage, and although the state is requiring manufacturers to take back old items for recycling, many companies have not yet geared up to do so, Crocker said.
The town took e-waste dropoffs daily until a fire destroyed its shed a year ago.
