NT schools receive grant to hire counselors for elementary schools

A federal grant totaling more than $1.17 million will enable the North Tonawanda School District to hire counselors to assist students and families in its elementary schools.

Rep. Brian Higgins, D-Buffalo, joined School Superintendent Gregory Woytila and other district representatives Tuesday to talk about the grant from the U.S. Department of Education’s Elementary and Secondary School Counseling Program. The district will receive more than $390,000 a year for three years.

Grants are awarded on a competitive basis to districts that demonstrate need, and propose the most promising and innovated approaches to expanding counseling services.
