NIAGARA FALLS – A Falls man driving a car suspected in a recent shooting faces felony charges after police found nearly 9 grams of crack cocaine in his hoodie. He also was arrested on three felony warrant charges in connection with an April 30 burglary on Ontario Avenue.
Demetrius J. Gregory, 26, of 24th Street was stopped for failing to signal a turn just after 2 a.m. Tuesday on 16th Street. Gregory got out of the car and fled, leading police on a foot chase. He eventually surrendered. He told police he ran because he had outstanding warrants. A white hoodie that Gregory had thrown in a yard during the chase was located by police and found to contain a cell phone and a bag with two large chunks of crack cocaine, a total of 8.6 grams. A small bag of marijuana was located on Gregory during a booking search.
He was charged with third and fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, both felonies; resisting arrest, unlawful possession of marijuana, failure to signal and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.
He was charged on a warrant with first-degree burglary, fourth-degree grand larceny and second-degree assault for an alleged break-in at 958 Ontario Avenue.
Police have previously named Lacey A. Moll of 77th Street as a codefendant in the Ontario Avenue burglary case.
