Well-rounded education will benefit students most
Hats off to Megan Smith, chief technology officer at the White House, and her path to success for which she credits her education in Buffalo’s City Honors School.
She stressed her well-rounded education – with the arts valued as much as science, technology, engineering and math. She believes learning across all subjects to help students find their natural talents – with more emphasis on hands-on projects, problem solving and making things – is the key to a successful education with less time spent on testing.
If we sent a copy of Smith’s speech to everyone who is trying to improve the education of all Buffalo area students, we might proudly list our graduates among tomorrow’s leaders.
