Cheektowaga Democrats back Benczkowski for supervisor

The Cheektowaga Democratic Committee has voted to endorse Town Board member Diane Benczkowski for town supervisor. She defeated Town Clerk Alice Magierski in weighted voting, 10,473 to 8,769.

Magierski is expected to challenge Benczkowski in a primary election. The current supervisor, Mary Holtz, is retiring.

Deputy Town Clerk Vicki Dankowski was chosen as a candidate to succeed Magierski. She defeated newcomer Richard Rusiniak. Incumbent Highway Superintendent Mark Wegner, who was challenged by Jerzy Galazka, was overwhelmingly endorsed for another term. Town Justice Paul Piotrowski ran unopposed.

In a seven-way contest for three Town Council endorsements, incumbents Gerald Kaminski and Christine Adamczyk lost to Richard Zydel, Stan Kaznowski and Linda Hammer. Newcomers Ken Young and Steven Specyal also were defeated.
