Bike ride through wine country to benefit Niagara Hospice

The Hospice Gran Fondo bicycle ride to benefit Niagara Hospice will be back this weekend for a second year.

This type of bicycle ride originated in Italy and its name translates to “big ride,” generally on scenic routes, open country roads, with pit stops along the way.

More than 650 bikers participated last year.

Riders can choose a 15-, 30- or 62.5-mile route, including stops at Niagara Wine Trail wineries. The race starts at 8 a.m. Saturday at Krull Park, 6108 Lake Road, Olcott. Cost is $65, and $20 for riders 16 and under.
