One civilian and one firefighter were injured in a boarding house fire early Monday in Buffalo’s Fruit Belt neighborhood.
The two-alarm fire at 262 High St., a large 2 1/2-story frame structure between Locust and Lemon streets, was reported at 5:47 a.m., according to fire dispatch. The blaze was declared under control at 6:32 a.m.
At one point, firefighters were ordered out of the building and a roll call was taken to account for all manpower. Firefighters subsequently went back inside to conduct a secondary search for occupants.
The injured firefighter was taken to Buffalo General Hospital; the status of the civilian wasn’t immediately available.
Damage was estimated at $75,000 to the structure and $20,000 to its contents.
