Open house set to welcome new Middleport librarian

MIDDLEPORT – The Royalton-Hartland Community Library is hosting an open house to welcome Sonora Miller, the library’s new director, from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday in the library, 9 Vernon St.

Miller started work on April 20. She spent most of her childhood in Medina and earned her master’s degree in library information science from Drexel University in Philadelphia. She was the director of children’s and young adult services at the Pennsauken, N.J., Library before returning to Western New York.

“I am thankful to be here, and I hope that my passion for libraries can continue the long tradition of service and excellence that has been set by previous directors,” Miller said. “Starting this spring, there will be a slate of new programs for children and teens, and a genealogy workshop for adults. Beyond that, I’m looking to expand our programs and services, connect with the local schools and local organizations and reach out to the whole community to find out what they’d like to see from their local library.”
