Niagara County renews bed tax, OKs road work

LOCKPORT – The Niagara County Legislature last week renewed for three years the 4 percent bed tax on hotel and motel bills outside the boundaries of the county’s three cities.

It’s the county’s contribution to funding for the Niagara Tourism and Convention Corp., the countywide tourism promotion agency. The cities of Niagara Falls and Lockport charge their own bed taxes.

In another county matter, CATCO of Alden was awarded a $3.9 million contract to rebuild the Lockport Road intersections with Ward and Walmore roads in Wheatfield. The project will add left turn lanes in all four directions and resurfacing Lockport Road between Ward and Walmore, Public Works Commissioner Kevin P. O’Brien said.
