Glen W. Meyers, a Navy officer during World War II and the Korean War and a longtime area businessman, died Wednesday in Buffalo General Medical Center. The Williamsville resident was 96.
Born in Kenmore, Mr. Meyers graduated from Kenmore High School and Canisius College.
During his years in the Navy he attended the Naval Academy for engineering training before serving as a lieutenant commander in both the Atlantic and Pacific fleets during World War II, and later during the Korean War. He also served in the Navy National Guard.
Back home Mr. Meyers became vice president of Meyers Chemicals Inc. and was also president of Buffalo Rubber and Plastics.
An avid golfer, he was a board member and 50-year member of Park County Club. He also was a member of the DiGamma Honor Society of Canisius College.
His wife of 69 years, the former Mary Hoevler, died in 2013. Survivors include two daughters, Mary Clare Beougher and Margaret Mooar; three sons, Glen, James and Theodore; and two sisters, June Cass and Joan Linnan.
A Mass of Christian Burial was offered Saturday in SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Williamsville.
