Wheatfield burglary suspect caught after alarm scares him off

LOCKPORT – A Wheatfield man was arrested as a burglary suspect after a brief chase on Kelsey Lane in Wheatfield early Friday, Niagara County Sheriff’s deputies said.

Dominic Passanisi, 22, was captured about 4:14 a.m. after an alarm system alerted the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office to a break-in on Kelsey, Sheriff James R. Voutour said.

Passanisi was charged with second-degree burglary, second-degree attempted burglary, petit larceny and resisting arrest. He is accused of breaking into one home and trying to get into another, before the alarm system scared him away, deputies said. Additional charges are expected to be lodged, said Voutour, who credited the quick arrest to stepped up patrols in the town in response to a recent rash of building and car break-ins.
