JAMESTOWN — Burial records from Lake View Cemetery have been added to the New York Heritage Digital Collection at nyheritage.org.
Information from burial records between 1858 and 1950 were digitized. The records include name, date of birth, age, cause of death, death date and funeral and burial plot details. There is also information on military service, occupation, nationality, sex, race, church and social memberships.
“This will be a great help to researchers,” Joni Blackman, director of the Fenton History Center, said in a news release.
The project was a collaboration by Prendergast Library, Lake View Cemetery, Fenton History Center and the Western New York Library Resources Council.
The cemetery opened in 1858, when Jamestown outgrew its original burial ground. The property has grown to more than 150 acres with more than 43,000 burial sites, including Gov. Reuben E. Fenton, local Underground Railroad leader Catherine Harris and entertainer Lucille Ball.
