Bulletin Board for May 8

Niagara Gymnastics’ Level 7 team came home with several state titles from the 2015 New York State Girls USA Gymnastics Championships at Rockland Community College Fieldhouse. Elaina Page won the all-around in the Junior C division with a 37.65, also winning floor with a 9.5. Paige Nowak won the all-around in the Senior D division with a 36.475, also placing second on floor. In the Child E division, Kendall Sobczyk took silver in the all-around with 37.35 while winning beam with a 9.6. Jenna Peterson placed third in the all-around of the Senior B division, scoring 35.95. Sam Peterson placed second on floor (9.375) and bars in the Senior E division. Emily King took fourth on beam in the Child D division, Marissa Peters took eighth on floor in Senior A, and in the team competition, Niagara placed ninth while Page and Sobczyk qualified for the regional team.

Jordyn Moonan (West Seneca), Alivia Penman (Silver Creek) and Amanda Sullivan (Eden) were crowned regional champions on floor, beam and vault, respectively, at the level 7/8 regional gymnastics championships held May 2 and 3 in Rhode Island. Moonan, a Level 8 gymnast, scored a 9.625 on floor exercise while Penman (Level 7) scored 9.5 on beam and placed third in the all-around. Sullivan (Level 8) scored 9.225 on vault. Jenna Blair, Cali Czarcinski and Trinity Tartaro also medaled.

BASEBALL: There will be an open tryout and registration for the Police Athletic League Summer Baseball program May 17 at the Riverside Park baseball diamond. Boys 13-under is from noon to 2 p.m., and boys 19-under is from 3 to 5 p.m. Coaches still have time to register a team. BASKETBALL: Buffalo Titans will host the Clash of the Titans AAU tournament for girls on June 6-7 at the Buffalo Niagara Court Center. Registration must be completed at buffalotitans.com by May 29. ... Men’s and women’s summer basketball leagues at Daemen College begin in June. Entry fee is $200 per team. FOOTBALL: Former Buffalo Bill Mark Kelso will host a youth football symposium with the Niagara Erie Youth Sports Association on Wednesday, May 20 at LaSalle Preparatory (7436 Buffalo Ave., Niagara Falls), highlighting USA Football’s initiatives to make youth football safer. The event will introduce USA Football’s “HeadsUp” initiative, educating parents, players and coaches on proper protocols, including equipment fitting, concussion awareness, tackling and blocking form, heat preparedness and hydration and what to do in case of sudden cardiac arrest (SCA).
