MAYVILLE – The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Department continues its series of spring boater safety classes from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday in the Cassadaga Fire Hall, 22 Miller Place, Cassadaga. Students should bring a bagged lunch.
The state-approved classes are required for anyone 10 to 18 years old who operates a motorboat and for everyone over age 14 who operates a jet ski. The course also is required for anyone born after May 1, 1996, who operates any vessel in New York State waters.
Courses are free for youth aged 10 to 17 and $10 for those 18 and older. Parents of those under 18 must sign a release form. Registration will be held at the beginning of the class. For more information, call 753-4929.
Other boater safety classes will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 16 in Southwestern Middle School, 600 Hunt Road, Jamestown; and from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 30 in the Northern Chautauqua Conservation Club, 1 N. Mullet St., Dunkirk.
