Teeing it up for May 6

PGA Tour

Event: The Players Championship on the Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra, Fla., Thursday through Sunday.

TV: Thursday and Friday, 9 a.m.-7 p.m., Golf Channel; Saturday and Sunday, 9 a.m.-2 p.m., Golf Channel and 2-7 p.m. on NBC.

Last Year: Martin Kaymer of Germany holed an improbable 30-foot putt for par on the famous island green on the 17th hole and held on for a one-stroke victory over Jim Furyk. The German closed with a 1-under-par 71, compared with Furyk’s 66, and nearly blew a three-stroke lead by making a double bogey 6 on the 15th hole. However, after making that par putt at No. 17, he did not reach the final green in regulation, but he got up-and-down for another par sinking a four-foot putt. Kaymer, who won the 2010 PGA Championship in a playoff over Bubba Watson at Whistling Straits, went on to claim his second major title last June in the U.S. Open at Pinehurst No. 2 – becoming the first golfer to win those two events in the same season. He was in or near the lead almost all the way in the Players last year after starting with a 63.
