May 5, 1940: Before there was a boulevard, there was George Urban Flour

Buffalo spent more than a century as one of the nation’s great flour and milling hubs. It was George Urban who first brought flour to Buffalo.

Seventy-five years ago, Urban was still churning out 1,500 barrels of flour a day on Buffalo’s Urban Street.

This piece on George Urban Milling was part of a long-running series on Buffalo industry in The News.

"George Urban Milling"

"City’s pioneer roller mill also first to use electricity in flour production."
