Bishop Richard J. Malone will talk about family life and marriage as one of two keynote speakers during the National Catholic Prayer Breakfast Thursday at the Marriott Marquis in Washington, D.C.
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott is also scheduled to speak.
Bishop Malone was invited to speak at the breakfast in his role as chairman of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops Committee on Laity, Marriage, Family Life and Youth, and his outspoken defense of religious freedom, the family and the sanctity of marriage between a man and a woman.
“I am truly honored to have been chosen to speak on matters of such urgency at this significant national event,” Bishop Malone said.
More than 1,000 people are expected to attend the prayer breakfast, which was established in 2004 in response to Saint John Paul II’s call for a New Evangelization. The theme of this year’s breakfast is family.
