PSC probes Ambit Energy over high electric bills

A third-party energy provider is being investigated for dramatic rate increases, the Department of Public Service said Monday.

The department’s Consumer Advocate launched an investigation into Ambit Energy after a significant spike statewide of customers’ complaints about higher-than-expected electricity bills.

Local Ambit customers are being encouraged to contact the Consumer Advocate in case there are refunds or refunds, said. James Denn, a spokesperson with the Department of Public Service.

Denn said the Consumer Advocate began seeing a rise in complaints during the latter part of 2014 and into this year.

“Upon review, it certainly looks like there’s a reason to be concerned,” he said. “And the Consumer Advocate is on the job.”
