High school debate to mark 800th anniversary of Magna Carta signing

The 800th anniversary of the signing of the Magna Carta will be observed during the annual Law Day High School Debate from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday in the Ceremonial Courtroom in Old County Hall, 92 Franklin St. It is free and open to the public.

Taking part in the debate, sponsored by the Eighth Judicial District’s Committee to Promote Public Trust and Confidence in the Courts, will be students from six Buffalo high schools – City Honors, Hutchinson Central, Bennett, Leonard da Vinci, Visual and Performing Arts, and South Park.

The students will debate two questions: “School to prison pipeline: Does excessive discipline lead to incarceration?” and “Does a school district have the right or duty to change an offensive nickname without giving the students due process?”
