Potomac Avenue woman arrested for DWI, leaving child in car

A 36-year-old Potomac Avenue woman was arrested for drunken driving and mistreated a child late Thursday night at Forest Avenue and Grant Street.

Karen LaPorte-Guma was arrested after someone in a store she entered called 911 because she had parked in a handicapped zone illegally and apparently dropped her young child onto the pavement. When officers arrived, she allegedly admitted having been drinking. She was charged with driving while intoxicated, parking illegally in a handicapped zone, aggravated unlicensed driving for having a license suspended after an earlier incident and child endangerment. Police said Erie County Child Protective Services was notified of her behavior.
