Show some compassion for our troubled youths
I was elated to recently read about long-overdue renovations scheduled for Baker Victory Services residential treatment center. What I found to be very sad was the Lackawanna mayor’s protest and negative comments from neighbors.
I am privileged to be a CASA (court-appointed special advocate) and, in that capacity, was an advocate for a few assigned clients for about eight years at Baker Victory. I came to know a very dedicated professional staff working with these unfortunate children. They are carrying a troubled past and many other traumas, through no fault of their own, who need care 24/7 to help them heal and learn to have a life.
Thank God for this residential treatment facility. I would venture to say that the mayor and disgruntled neighbors would change their tune if one of the “troubled” children happened to be theirs.
