Public officials and leaders of social service agencies joined Erie County Executive Mark C. Poloncarz and State Sen. Tim Kennedy, D-Buffalo, in reading to youngsters Tuesday in the kickoff of “Read Aloud 15,” a campaign that encourages adults to read aloud to a child for 15 minutes every day.

The kickoff took place in the Central Library on Lafayette Square in downtown Buffalo and included pre-K students from the Jewish Community Center and Bennett Park Montessori School. Juggler and entertainer Nels Ross of In Jest also performed.

The 37 Buffalo and Erie County Public Library branches and more than two dozen community organizations will promote reading aloud to children with posters, stickers and social media.
