Children and family can “travel the world around Buffalo” during Spring Break at Explore & More Children’s Museum in East Aurora.
Family Fun Week, which runs Monday through Friday, will celebrate the diverse immigrant cultures in the Buffalo region through a series of activities, performances, food and fun.
The following events will take place at the museum, 300 Gleed Ave.:
Monday: Poland – Celebrate Dyngus Day from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. by sampling Polish foods, doing Polish “wycinanki” (paper cutting) with artist Barbara Frackiewicz, and creating your own Polish doll with doll maker Kathleen Rumfola; from 2 to 3 p.m., enjoy this special day with dancers from the Harmony Polish Folk Ensemble.
Tuesday: Poland continued – From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., sample Polish foods, do Polish “wycinanki” (paper cutting) with artist Barbara Frackiewicz, and create your own Polish doll with doll maker Kathleen Rumfola.
Wednesday: Ethiopia – From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., sample Ethiopian injera and savory foods, make a clay bowl reminiscent of Ethiopian clay bowls.
Thursday: Yemen – From 11 to 11:30 a.m., dancers from the ACCESS Arab Language Program will perform; from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., sample Yemeni sambosa, desserts and tea, watch henna designs being created, and draw some yourself, and learn to write your name in Arabic, as well as about Hijab traditions with representatives from WNY Muslims.
Friday: Puerto Rico – From 11 to 11:30 a.m., MarCe Zerrate and dancers from Amor and Heritage Inc. will perform; from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., sample Puerto Rican pastelillos and cake/bizcocho, work on a collaborative art project representing Puerto Rico and make your own picture frame in the colors of the Puerto Rican flag.
