Navy veteran invited to walk in New York City parade

ARCADE – Retired Navy Petty Officer Matthew Bove of Arcade has been invited to walk in America’s Parade in New York City’s Fifth Avenue on Veterans Day Tuesday with the UCLA Operation Mend program.

Bove, who sustained third-degree burns to his face, hands, arms and legs in a boiler explosion while serving aboard the U.S.S. Frank Cable in the Pacific in 2006, has been referred to Operation Mend by another patient and will undergo his first reconstructive surgery in February.

Founded in 2007, Operation Mend provides injured military personnel with treatment by top physicians at the UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles.
