Townhouses opened at Fredonia State

FREDONIA – A $30 million townhouse living complex was officially opened with a ribbon cutting ceremony Wednesday at the State University of New York College at Fredonia.

President Virginia Horvath and several officials welcomed about 100 campus and community residents to the University Village Townhouses.  The housing is new to the campus which previously has had dormitory style housing.  “This has been a dream since I arrived here in 2005,” said Dr. Horvath. She said the college wanted to provide community style housing to students while offering them the safety of living on the campus.  The new two and three-story town-house style apartments are on the outer edge of Ring Road on the campus.

The complex has been under construction for 18-months.  Dr. Horvath said there were several setbacks during a particularly difficult winter season in 2013 and 2014.  The new facility opened on time and will eventually house about 200 students.
