SPCA seizes 22 dogs, cats from Cheektowaga grooming/boarding facility

Authorities on Wednesday removed 22 dogs and cats from a grooming and boarding facility in Cheektowaga that was the subject of a complaint about filthy conditions, according to a spokeswoman for the SPCA Serving Erie County.

The anonymous complaint about TLC Pet Center, 3085 Genesee St., was made Tuesday.

“Our officer headed out there yesterday. I don’t know to what extent he was allowed on the property,” spokeswoman Gina Browning said Wednesday afternoon.

After obtaining a warrant from Cheektowaga Town Court, SPCA personnel returned at about 1:30 p.m. Wednesday. It appeared that some cleaning had been done overnight, Browning noted.

Eighteen dogs, of various breeds, were removed, Browning said. There also are four cats, three of which reportedly were being boarded there.

The animals will be brought to the SPCA’s veterinary clinic in the Town of Tonawanda.

“Our vets are waiting to take a look at each,” Browning said.

Evidence will be reviewed to determine whether charges are warranted against the operators of the business.

“The thing that makes this tricky is determining ownership ... because it is billed as a boarding facility,” Browning said.
